Fridayz Angelz at the Marquee

Fridayz Angelz at the Legendary Marquee Club in London, where to name but a few,Rock/Pop Icons such as The Who , Rod Stewart and The Rolling Stones have played. My band at the time were Fridayz Angelz (Pictured above) and we played at this venue on Saturday 28th March 1987, as support band to a then, very popular London band , by the name of The Babysitters. We were on the verge of getting onto a major support with the same band around this time, playing such venues as the Hammersmith and the Birmingham Odeon's. For whatever reason, I cannot remember now, the tour never came to be. We return to Coventry and tried to build on our success in London and managed a headline gig at a Night club in Coventry called Busters. What followed was a reshuffle of the line-up, but never really managed to get up the same steam although we returned to London and played The Royal Standard, which was not quite the same. Some support gigs with the Grip, another London band happened at various times in the bands career.
The picture above is one of several which have not seen the light of day for several years and were assumed to be lost until they turned up in the cellar of Iain (pictured far right) while he was clearing it out. There were about 40 photo's taken but we only have about 4 left that were found.
One memory of this time, that springs to mind was the music that we were listening to on our way down in the minibus. I think the day before the gig, I had purchased an album by a rock band called The Cult, 'Electric'. It was such a pumped up rock album with it's massive guitar riffs on such tracks as Love Removal Machine and Lil'Devil. I had to copy it over onto a cassette tape so we could play it on the minibus. We travelled down to London in 2 minibuses, one with the band and gear in and the second one with our close but small, faithful followers in. We also played a gig in Rugby( as a warm up for the Marquee) the night before, at a place called The Blitz. I think it was a nightclub at the time, although now I think it is a wine bar, that is if it is still there!

Can you ride tandem?

Can You Ride Tandem? Posted by Picasa
I bought this seat for my bike, at the weekend. I bought it for Siam to sit on so that me Tyla and Siam can go out and spend some time together. Probably the wrong time of year to be going out a lot with winter coming on soon. We have been out 3 times this week already. It also gets me doing some exercise that I am need of doing. Siam seems to be enjoying going out on it.

My photo's with Thin Lizzy

Thin Lizzy Posted by Picasa Pics Clockwise: Live at Coventry Theatre, Me and John Sykes,Phil Lynott and Me, Me and Darren Wharton.
Pics above, backstage with Thin Lizzy during there final UK tour in 1983. They played at the Coventry Theatre during what was about 40 dates on the tour. The last UK gig they did was at the Reading Rock festival during the same year and I attended this also.
The Pic of Me and Phil Lynott is one of my prized photo's of me with one of my musical heroes during 1983. For the life of me, I dunno why I have my tongue hanging out. Maybe it was the fact I was posing with a big rockstar of the time.

Tyla starts Secondary School.

A big change in Tyla's life (and also our family life) today, as he began his education at Whitley Abbey Secondary School. It is a day that marks a change, in how far Tyla flies from the nest in terms of making his own way to and from school. A time for him to take some steps towards his own independence and direction in his life. I'm sure along the way there will be happy times, arguements , sadness and disappointments. But in the way forward I have spoken with him and he understands that he is expected to try his hardest at everything(However hard that my be). I personally don't expect him to come out at the top of the education ladder, just that he has done his best with the education he has been given the oppurtunity to have. I know that he will do us proud in whatever direction he takes and I will help and guide him all along the way, to my best ability also. Good Luck Son.

On the eve of going to his new school Tyla was very excited about getting all his stuff ready for school, clothes, bag etc. I cut his hair for him and he showered and was all ready for bed along with the new rule of in bed, with the light and TV off by 10.00pm at latest. The excitement though turn to tears just before he went to bed though on the discovery of one of his goldfish being found dead in the fishtank. It upset him a lot. He cried a lot but I think it was just a build up of emotions for his new start at school. He went to bed and was still upset. He awoke in the morning quite chirpy and ready to go.

Torme and Firefly at the General Wolfe

"Yep i was a fan of Torme many years ago and still have all my vinyl stuff. I was a big fan during the Phil Lewis and Gillan years. My own band 'Firefly' got to support Bernie's band when he played at the General Wolfe in Coventry UK, about the time of Shoorah... I think. The gig was heaving that night. I have some pics somewhere which I'll have to dig out. I actually got to meet Bernie in the car park of the pub after the show. He was loading up his estate car with his stuff and had his girlfriend with him.He was very pleasant to speak to and had time to speak also. It made our night from what I recall.
